KB440751: What are the key log files that are useful when using MicroStrategy?

When using the MicroStrategy tool we may encounter several issues. When troubleshooting them log files will be useful. Which of them are the most important?

 

  1. Dss log


The DSSErrors.log is the main error log recorded by the Strategy Intelligence Server.This log file is typically the first log file that should be examined when troubleshooting an issue with Strategy Intelligence Server.

       2. Web log
Log the communication between the Strategy Web server and the Strategy Intelligence Server
C:\Program Files (x86)\Strategy\Web ASPx\WEB-INF\log
        3. Web XML API log
The Java XML API log will record all the XML communications between Intelligence Server and Web
It will track and log all communications at the “XML API” layer
How to enable the XML API log?
Through Strategy Web Administrator page > Diagnostics > Advanced Logger Option The Kernel
        4. XML-API trace 
The Kernel XML-API trace on the Strategy Intelligence Server per KB13825. This logs the same communications, but from the Strategy Intelligence Server perspective.

          5. Web Statistics
Strategy Web Statistics can be used to troubleshoot hanging or slow performance issues for certain Strategy objects, such as reports or prompts. With these logs, administrators can log at which level how much time is used for the execution of a certain task in Strategy Web.

        6. Network issue – Fiddler trace
Fiddler is a free tool that supports debugging HTTP(S) traffic and monitoring incoming and outgoing network traffic. It integrates with Microsoft Internet Explorer but can debug traffic from other applications such as Mozilla Firefox, Opera, etc.
