KB440793: When using liveconnect queries ending with a comment using "--" receive the error "Execute Query failer. Error type: Odbc error..."

This Knowledge Base article describes how some users may encounter an error "Execute Query failer. Error type: Odbc error..." when using liveconnect and adding a comment as the last line of the query.

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
SYMPTOM
We have found that when you use SQL database and live connection with a comment as the last part of the query the following error is encountered as shown on the screenshot

ka0PW0000001JSCYA2_0EM44000000WN7h.png

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a new dataset and select a live connect feature to an MSSQL database.
2. Run a query adding "--<comment here>" at the end of the said query

3. Select "Create the dossier" after creating the dataset connection.
4.The error "Execute Query failer. Error type: Odbc error..." will pop up after adding an attribute to the dossier
CAUSE
For FFSQL tables being used in Live Connect mode, we depend on Customer to follow some best practices.
Not ending the Definition using, or comments is one of them as they interfere with nested query syntax needed for the Live Connect scenario.
ACTION
This issue was reviewed by our Technology team for feasibility and will not be scope for a code fix in any upcoming Strategy release
WORKAROUND
1. By using a comment with the notation "/* <comment> */" the error was not encountered while adding an attribute.
2. When using the data access mode option "In-memory" the error was not encountered. KB440793
