KB440895: Data load is not transferring the statistics data properly although the completion status -2.0 is returned indicating a successful data load in MicroStrategy Enterprise Manager 10.x

Toshiaki Ishikawa

Senior Cloud Support Engineer II • MicroStrategy

"SQL Server Native Client 11.0" driver is unsupported in 10.x. ODBC driver ‘MicroStrategy ODBC Driver for SQLServer Wire Protocol’ must be used from beginning of setting up Statistics and Enterprise Manager.

SYMPTOM
Data load is not transferring the statistics data properly although the completion status -2.0 is returned indicating a successful data load in Strategy Enterprise Manager 10.x.
Below symptoms may be observed:

  • The completion status of the last data load may be -2.0 which indicates that it has been finished successfully.
Below command has -2.0 as a result.

    LIST PROPERTIES FOR LAST DATA LOAD IN ENTERPRISE MANAGER “<ServerName>” IN PORT <Port>;

  • Statistics information may be recorded successfully into corresponding statistics tables.
  • Several EM out-of-the-box reports could not be executed with a Query Engine error.
  • Part of statistical data cannot be recorded into EM table.

CAUSE
In this specific use case, Microsoft SQL server has been used as a database for Statistics & Enterprise Manager Repository.
But unsupported native ODBC driver for SQL server has been used.
In version 10.x, the only supported ODBC driver for  Microsoft SQL server database is Strategy out-of-the-box ODBC driver "Strategy ODBC Driver for SQLServer Wire Protocol."

ACTION
Take below actions to switch to the supported ODBC driver:

  1. Recreate DSN to connect to Statistics database by using Strategy Connectivity wizard and selecting driver "Strategy ODBC Driver for SQLServer Wire Protocol."
  2. Recreate Statistics & Enterprise Manager Repository by using Strategy configuration wizard with the re-created DSN.

Note that only implementing Step 1 might not be enough to solve the issue. Statistics & Enterprise Manager Repository should also be recreated.
