KB441051: Integrity Manager does not properly add objects from search results saved in MicroStrategy Developer 10.x

Stanislav Gordiienko

Senior Product Manager • MicroStrategy

KB441051 When running Integrity Manager tests on list of objects generated by search in MicroStrategy Developer, some objects might be missed. This generally occurs if in search you create a specific filtering criteria, and expect to include or exclude some types of objects.

SYMPTOM
After creating and saving search results, the number of objects displayed in search of Strategy Developer does not match amount of objects selected by Integrity Manager.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a new search in Strategy Developer
2. Under "Name & Location" tab check "exclude folders" and select any 2 folders (for example \Strategy Tutorial\Public Objects\Reports\Business Roles\Billing Managers and \Strategy Tutorial\Public Objects\Reports\Business Roles\Brand Managers)
3. Under "object types" tab select "reports"
4. Navigate to "contains" tab
5. Under "does not contain any object of this type" select Intelligent
cube

6. Notice amount of objects found and save the search
7. Launch "Integrity Manager" > Project Vs. Project
8. On the "select objects from base project" tab, select the search saved in step 6
9. Select sql/data
10. When you run the test, Integrity Manager is not applying the filter from step 5. its not using "does not contain Intelligent cube" filter, it includes more reports.
CAUSE
This is a known defect of Strategy platform.
ACTION
Currently this issue is still being reviewed for feasibility by our Technology team and it is not scoped for any upcoming scheduled Strategy release.
WORKAROUND
1. In Strategy Developer create a dedicated folder that can be used for workaround
2. Create search results with filtering according to business requirements.
3. Highlight all objects returned by search.
4. Right click on objects and create a shortcut. When prompted, specify a folder from step 1.
5. Once shortcuts have been saved in dedicated folder, navigate to Integrity Manager and run tests by selecting all shortcuts from dedicated folder, and hence referencing all necessary objects returned by original search in Developer. KB441051
