KB441053: An alert subscription fails and the error “The object with the given identifier is not an object of the expected type” gets captured in the DSSErrors.log in MicroStrategy Secure Enterprise 10.x.

This article describes a known issue where an alert subscription fails due to invalid object type being generated. The issue has been fixed in 10.4 HF7 and 10.11.

SYMPTOMS
An alert subscription fails and the DSSErrors.log captures the following entries

[Object Server][Error][0x80041105] The object with the given identifier is not an object of the expected type.
[Kernel][Error] Error -2147217147, hIsReportOrDocumentAllowUsersToSubscribe: Failed to find report or document object
Kernel][Error] hCheckDSACLinBulk: Error in hIsReportOrDocumentAllowUsersToSubscribe for report/doc (ID = 774B35C34054CA3E532E5FB60B6A64BC, type = 55). Error Code = 0x80041105
[Distribution Service][Error] FAILED SUBSCRIPTION

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1) Create a document D1 without any dataset reports and only place a simple text object
2) Create a view report R1 off of a cube with 1 attribute and 1 metric
3) Create an event schedule
4) Run the report R1 on web
5) Right mouse click the metric and choose the “Email notification” from the Alert menu. Within the user interface, define the details as follows
- Define the threshold condition as “M1 greater than or equal to 0” so that this condition will always be met
- Choose the event schedule created in Step 3
- Set multiple recipients
- choose “Send different report or document” and select the document D1
6) Trigger the event
CAUSE
This is a known issue in Strategy Intelligence Server 10.x. The GUID in the above error is the report GUID created in Step 1 of the reproduction steps. However, the object type is 55, which indicates a document, causing the error “The object with the given identifier is not an object of the expected type” to be generated.
ACTION
This issue has been addressed in version 10.4 Hotfix 7 and 10.11. Upgrade to take advantage of the fix.
