KB441104: A Dossier Owner's Name is Displayed Differently between MicroStrategy Library and Web in 10.11

Ellen (Aiqun) Wang

Product Owner, Principal • MicroStrategy

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Description

In Strategy 10.11, users of both Strategy Library and Web may notice different behavior between the two applications when abbreviating long user names for the owner of a dossier.
For example, when browsing in Web to a dossier that is owned by a user named “Strategy, Support (Global Support),” the name of the owner is truncated to “Strategy,Suppor …”. While in Strategy Library 10.11, the name is abbreviated in a different manner, instead being displayed as “M. Support)”,  as shown below:

Steps to reproduce

1) In Strategy Web, create a Dossier and send it to your Library
2) Modify your user name to a very long name, e.g. Strategy, Support (Global Support)
3) Check the dossier owner name in web, it displayed as “Strategy, Suppor …”. Check the dossier owner name in the home page of Library, it displayed as “M. Support)”

Why is this happening?

In Strategy 10.11, there is a known issue specific to Strategy Library, in which the application is using a different logic to abbreviate names. If the name to requiring abbreviation contains a comma to separate parts of the name (i.e. first name, last name, location), Library's logic was to pull only the first letter from before the comma and then the last set of characters existing after the comma.
As noted above, this behavior is inconsistent with Strategy Web and is a known issue in Strategy Library 10.11.

Solution

This issue has been addressed in Strategy 11.0 to follow the same logic in Strategy Library as is performed in Strategy Web. Please upgrade to the latest version to take advantage of the fix.
If you are not able to move to the latest version of Strategy, an alternative solution is to remove the commas from the user's name.
