SYMPTOM
When the user tries to connect to MSTR from Office using MSTR plugin for Office it fails with
"The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel"
The office plugin could not establish an SSL connection
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
- seen in Strategy web 10.4.5- in house
- seen in Strategy web 10.9- in house
1) Open Microsoft Excel
2) Go to "Strategy" tab
3) Click the "Office" button in "Strategy" ribbon in excel
4) It opens "Connect to Project"
5) Select Project source
6) Tried logging using LDAP user and then press "Get Projects" button
7) The user then get "The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel"
CAUSE
We identified the root cause of the version of .NET not being at a high enough level and passed along a workaround to resolve these issues with would be standard for any version below 4.6.
ACTION
This defect is fixed in Strategy version 10.11.
WORKAROUND
Creation and setting of 2 registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\v4.0.30319: SchUseStrongCrypto to DWORD hexadecimal 1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NetFramework\v4.0.30319 SchUseStrongCrypto to DWORD hexadecimal 1
