Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.
SUMMARY
This knowledge base article describes the Strategy 10.x behavior encountered when sending a dossier based off a cube to history list. After the cube is republished, history list messages for a dossier based on a cube do not show historical data from before the cube was republished.
SYMPTOM
When a dossier using a cube as a dataset is opened through a history list message, the dossier will show updated data from after the cube was republished.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a dossier based directly off of a cube
2. Send the dossier to the history list
3. Republish the cube with new data
4. Run the dossier from the history list message created in step 2
5. The dossier will contain the data that was updated when the cube was republished in step 3.
CAUSE
When a dossier is built off of a report and then sent to the history list, a stream file is created in the inbox storage directory which is used to store the historical version of the dossier. The dossier that is run from the history list message will run based on the stream file created. When a dossier is built directly off of a cube, a stream file is not created in the inbox directory. The dossier that is run from a history list message will run off the cube rather than off of a stream file. Therefore, when that cube is republished, the dossier will run off of the cube with updated data.
ACTION
There is an enhancement request posted in the Ideas Exchange for the implementation of a feature that will allow historical versions of dossiers built directly off cubes to be accessed from History List messages after the cube is republished.
WORKAROUND
In order to view the historical version of dossiers from before the cube was republished, the dossier must be created based on a report that is directly based on that cube. Below are the steps required to view the historical version of dossiers that are based on cubes:
1. Create a report based off of the cube
2. Create a dossier based on that report
3. Send the dossier to the history list
4. Republish the cube
5. Run the dossier from the history list
6. The dossier will contain data from before the cube was republished in step 4. This maintains access to the version of the dossier from when the dossier was sent to the history list.
