SUMMARY
This knowledge base article describes the high-level steps required to upgrade Enterprise Manager when upgrading between versions of Strategy.
CONTENT
When upgrading between versions of Strategy, the following steps are required to update the Enterprise Manager and Statistics Repository and Enterprise Manager project to that version of the software. This will ensure that any changes made in newer versions of Enterprise Manager are applied when performing an upgrade. The following instructions mention steps that are part of the general upgrade process. Before performing the steps mentioned, the MicroStrategy Upgrade Guide should be referenced for further details and best practices for conducting an upgrade. It is important to make backups of the metadata database and the Enterprise Manager and Statistics Repository before performing the following steps.
Prerequisites:
- Perform an upgrade of the Intelligence Server that is being monitored by Enterprise Manager
- This step can be performed by uninstalling the previous version of the Strategy software and installing the new version of the software or by installing the new version of the software on top of the existing version (referred to as an in-place upgrade)
- Upgrade the projects in the metadata repository through Configuration Wizard the upgrade Intelligence Server machine
- In Configuration Wizard, select 'Upgrade existing environment to Strategy Analytics Enterprise' > 'Intelligence Server Components' to perform the metadata upgrade
Overview of steps required to upgrade Enterprise Manager:
- Upgrade Enterprise Manager Data Loader Service
- Upgrade Enterprise Manager project
- Upgrade Enterprise Manager and Statistics Repository (this step was not required when upgrading to versions of Strategy older than 10.10 and 10.4 Hotfix 6)
1.Upgrade of the Enterprise Manager Data Loader Service
- This step can be performed by uninstalling the previous version of the Strategy and installing the new version of the software or by installing the new version of Strategy 10.x on top of the existing 10.x version of the software (referred to as an in-place upgrade) on the Enterprise Manager Data Loader Service machine
2.Upgrade of the Enterprise Manager project
- This step must be performed on the Intelligence Server machine
- In Configuration Wizard, select 'Upgrade existing environment to Strategy Analytics Enterprise' > 'Upgrade Enterprise Manager Project.'
- Follow the prompts in the Wizard to enter Intelligence Server credentials and Enterprise Manager and Statistics repository database username and password
3.Upgrade of the Enterprise Manager and Statistics repository (this step is required when upgrading to Strategy 10.10 and newer or 10.4 Hotfixes 6-8)
- If an in-place upgrade of the Enterprise Manager Data Loader service was performed, this installer would run the upgrade of the Enterprise Manager and Statistics repository
- The installer runs the upgrade script on the Enterprise Manager and Statistics Repository that the Enterprise Manager Data Loader service is configured to. There are no additional steps needed to upgrade the repository
- If an uninstall/reinstall or fresh install was performed to upgrade the Enterprise Manager Data Loader service, the upgrade script will not be run on the Enterprise Manager and Statistics Repository.
- When Enterprise Manager is installed on a machine, the upgrade scripts for each different type of database will be saved on to the machine.
- The default locations for these scripts are as follows
- Windows:
- \Strategy\Enterprise Manager\Scripts
- Linux
- <Install Directory>/MicroStrategy/EnterpriseManager/Scripts/
- The scripts follow the naming convention em_upgrade_DBType.sql
