KB441857: HTML formatting tags render improperly using Distribution Services in MicroStrategy 10.4

Community Admin

• Strategy

The use of HTML formatting tags renders improperly using Disturbed Services. This limitation is addressed in MicroStrategy 10.6 and up.

SYMPTOM
Using HTML formatting tags on a report renders correctly when run with Strategy 10.4.  However, when this same report is sent via distributed services, the report shows the HTML formatting tags (example below).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

  1. In Strategy 10.4, create a table with values such as :

<HTML>              % nodes that are scorable1</HTML>
<HTML><b>Total Nodes in billing</b></HTML>

  1. Create an attribute named HTML which uses this table.
  2. After updating the schema, use the attribute in a Strategy Web report. Users will see that the HTML tags are used just for formatting (HTML tags are not displayed).
  3. If you run the report in Strategy Developer or send the report through Distribution Services, the report shows the HTML tags instead of formatting the text.

CAUSE
This is a known limitation with the RSD exporting engine in the Strategy 10.4 product line.
ACTION
Starting in Strategy 10.6 and higher, this is supported. Users can use email subscriptions in PDF format which will contain the HTML formatting and will not display the HTML tags. Upgrade to Strategy 10.6 or later to use this functionality.  There is not a workaround for Strategy 10.4.x product line.
