Community Admin

• Strategy

A user has set up MicroStrategy Web 2021 and above in Microsoft IIS to use Anonymous authentication, but for security reasons, would want to have the MicroStrategy Web Administration page to authenticate using Windows authentication, the following steps will ensure that a user must enter the application server's administrative credentials in order to access the MicroStrategy Web Administrator page.

A user has set up Strategy Web 2021 and above in Microsoft IIS to use Anonymous authentication, but for security reasons, would want to have the Strategy Web Administration page to authenticate using Windows authentication, the following steps will ensure that a user must enter the application server's administrative credentials in order to access the Strategy Web Administrator page.
Note: Anonymous and Windows Authentication modes are Microsoft authentication modes and not Strategy authentication modes. This process applies to any page, not just Strategy pages, to authenticate with a different authentication mode than its parent application.
ACTION

  • Disable Anonymous.
  • Enable Windows Authentication and ASP.NET Impersonation.
  • On the left pane, right click the Admin.aspx file and select "Edit Permissions".
  • Click on the Security tab.
  • Remove the "Everyone" user and the "IUSR" and any other user that should not have access to the page.
  • For Windows Authentication to work, "NETWORK SERVICE" user with full control is required. Leave this user here or add it here.
  • Re-start IIS for the settings to take effect.

Now the Strategy Web Administration page can use windows authentication while the rest of Strategy Web files may or may not use the same authentication mode.
