KB442217: Large number of error “You do not have access privileges to project xxxx” could be found in DSSErrors log regularly or repeatedly in MicroStrategy

Min Zheng

Senior Manager, Cloud Support • MicroStrategy

This article describes one pattern which produces "You do not have access privileges to project xxxx", which could be safely ignored.

SYMPTOM
Large number of error “You do not have access privileges to project xxxx” could be found in DSSErrors log regularly or repeatedly in Strategy.
However users don’t get any error in Web GUI or Developer..

Below error can be found from DSSErrors log for one or multiple projects:

[Object Server][Error][0x80041B0E] You do not have access privileges to project 'xxxxxxx'.

Most time, it is always recorded right after an event or a time schedule is triggered for subscriptions.
E.g

2018-11-05 06:00:00.327+00:00 [HOST:xxxxx][SERVER:CastorServer][PID:xxxxx][THR:xxxxx][Kernel][Info]
Distribution Service Trigger: Retrieved X subscriptions for project X for Trigger 'xxxxxx'.
<Scheduler Execution ID = xxxxxxxx>
2018-11-05 06:00:00.327+00:00 [HOST:xxxxx][SERVER:CastorServer][PID:xxxxx][THR:xxxxx]
[Object Server][Error][0x80041B0E] You do not have access privileges to project 'xxxxxxx'.

CAUSE
One possible reason is that the user, who is related to those subscriptions, doesn’t have Access Privilege to all projects.

Considering the scenario where one certain user only has Access Privilege to Project A but not to Project B.
Then when this subscription is triggered, no matter it is event based or time based, it is possible that below error will be recorded into DSSErrors log.

You do not have access privileges to project 'Project B'.

ACTION
The error produced by above pattern could be safely ignored.
If there is concern that the error would flood the DSSErrors log, logging with level [Object Server][Error] could be modified to another new file via Diagnostics Tool.

The Strategy Internal Reference Number for the issue discussed in this technical note is US34100.
