Error message “At least one of the tables in EMMA cube fails when discovering data from data source” appears when users republish Intelligence Cubes imported from Excel in Web in 10.x and 11.0.

SYMPTOM:
When end users try to republish an Intelligence Cube imported from Excel in Strategy Web 10.x, below error message appears.

In 10.11 and 11.0, more detailed error messages appear as below.

This issue only occurs in republishing process. For the new cube created with the same excel file, it works fine.
In DSSError.log, below error appears.

2018-12-11 06:27:08.939 [HOST:XXXXXX][SERVER:CastorServer][PID:4564][THR:6200][COM Shared][Error][0x800424A5] Error in importing file. Check the file to import.[Discover failed. Error in importing files. Please check the file to import. Error type: Data Import Error. Seek for a nonexist SheetId 9 in excel file. Connection String: BINARY;XXXXXXXX;.]

CAUSE:
When the intelligent cube is created for the first time by importing an excel file containing multiple sheets, of which the 10th sheet is parsed as sheetID=9. While after the cube created, some sheets in excel might be deleted, and the 10th sheet may be the first sheet now, but the backend processof Strategy is still looking for SheetID= 9.
This is an expected behavior in 10.x and 11.0. The sheetID is parsed by backend process in the first time when the cube is created and is not changeable.
ACTION:

  • Option 1: It is recommended to create cube with the new Excel with less sheet.
  • Option 2:As a workaround, add 9 blank sheets in front of sheet contains data in Excel, to make sheetID matches the exact sheet.
