KB442579: The Platform Analytics Project Overview Dossier shows 45 documents in a newly created empty project

Community Admin

• Strategy

Starting with the release of Strategy ONE (March 2024), dossiers are also known as dashboards.

Description

In Strategy 2019, Platform Analytics was made available as a new way to keep track of the usage of your Strategy ecosystem. In addition to the telemetry collected by Platform Analytics, Strategy also provides an out-of-the-box Project for analyzing this data, which includes several Dossiers for system monitoring criteria, one of which is the Project Overview dossier. If creating a brand new project in your metadata that is being monitored through Platform Analytics, users of the Project Overview dossier may notice that the Project Comparison page within the Telemetry Overview chapter shows this project as containing 45 documents. This would be unexpected if the project has yet to be used.

Why is this happening?

Whenever a new project is created in a metadata, there are approximately 50 default application objects created. They are template objects that are used throughout Strategy, such as templates for getting started with creating a report or document.
For example, when choosing to create a new document in Strategy Web, you may be prompted to start creating your document by choosing from the document template objects listed in the screenshot below:

Since all of these document templates are stored in the metadata as document objects, Platform Analytics will track them in the same manner as any user-created document.

When performing ad-hoc analysis (i.e. executing an unsaved dossier, document or report), the object ID from these template objects will be used to track jobs executed by the Intelligence Server. Because these templates can have ad-hoc telemetry associated with them, Platform Analytics does not exclude them from any analysis.
