How to Add a Custom Html Coordinates File to the Drop Down of the Image Layout Widget Properties Using the MicroStrategy Web SDK.
    • Create a map coordinates file by checking online resources like http://www.image-maps.com or www.htmlgoodies.com, which provide a list of tools that can be used to create an Image map.
    • Copy the custom html file to the VisFramework\map folder under Strategy Web Deployment.

    • Note: Make sure each ALT value corresponds to the attributes on the grid in your document.
    • Change the image source as follows, if required. The SRC can be blank if no background image is needed.
      <HTML><HEAD><TITLE>seatingMap</TITLE></HEAD><BODY>
      <IMG src="../VisFramework/map/custom.gif" USEMAP="#seating_endstage" WIDTH="1380" HEIGHT="756" BORDER="0" />
      <MAP NAME="seating_endstage">
    • Also in that same folder, open the ShapeFileMap.xml file after making a back up of the file. To the bottom of the file add a new ShapeFileMap node. For example:
      <ShapeFileMap shapeKey="seatingMap" shapeType="Polygon" role="State" name="Custom Seat Map" descWeb="custom.1" descFlash="custom.11" descDesktop="26973" shapeFile="VisFramework/map/seatingMap.html"/>
      Note: The custom.1 and custom.11 message bundle strings were created following the MSDL instructions for adding new message bundles strings.
    • In Strategy 10.x, you have to modify the ShapeFileMap.xml file inside ..\WEB-INF\xml\config
    • Save the file and restart the web/app server. Note: In IIS, sometimes restarting in IIS Manager or using run command 'iisreset' is not enough to clear and restart the Web Server. Go to Administrative Tools > Services and restart 'World Wide Web Publishing Service' to ensure changes are applied.
    • Go to the document and add image layout widget to a grid, click the Widget Properties button and select the new custom coordinates file as shown:

    • Click Apply/OK, save and run the document.

Note: This also applies to Visual Insight dashboards in Strategy 9.4.x. Strategy 10.x does not have an Image Layout widget for Visual Insight.

The example provided in this document is provided “as-is” to the user and assumes that the user:

  • Can program, compile (e.g. javac, jikes, etc.), and execute Java programs
  • Can configure environment variables (e.g. JAR files, property files, etc.)
  • Have all the necessary tools to create Java applications (JDK, IDE, etc.)
  • Has access to the Strategy SDK documentation.
  • Has read the customization warning at the bottom of this document

PREREQUISITES:
For the sample to work, the Strategy Web JAR files must be accessible by the Java Runtime
Environment. The Strategy Web JAR files can be found under:

  • Strategy Web Universal (JSP): {web_root}/WEB-INF/lib directory.
  • Strategy Web (.NET): Program Files\Common Files\Strategy directory.

Note:
More elaborate programs will require additional library files and are out of the scope of this document.
