KB44326: "Cannot delete 'xxx' because other objects depend on it. Do you want to search the dependent objects?", error message appears when trying to delete a user in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.x - 10.x

This technical note outlines an issue that occurs due to a metadata inconsistency where a user cannot be deleted.

SYMPTOM:
When trying to remove a user, the following error appears:

Cannot delete 'xxx' because other objects depend on it. Do you want to search the dependent objects?

The user object does not have visible dependencies from Strategy Developer.
 
CAUSE:
The user cannot be deleted because it has an inconsistency in the request object's definition and the related link items.

ACTION:
Contact Strategy Technical Support for further assistance. In order to track down the cause of the inconsistency, customers encountering this issue should make note of related object manipulations, Object Migrations, or error messages prior to experiencing the problem. Change Journaling, if it has been enabled, can help in preserving this information.
