KB44367: The search results cover the text input box of a Search Box selector for a report services document in Express Mode in MicroStrategy Web 9.3.1.

The search results cover the text input box of a Search Box selector for a report services document in Express Mode in MicroStrategy Web 9.3.1.

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Web 9.3.1, when a search box selector is placed towards the bottom of the document that it would be close to the bottom edge of the browser window, the search results will display upward instead of downward overlapping the text input box in a report services document run in Express Mode.  This prevents users from seeing what they are typing, like shown below.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

Follow these instructions using Strategy Tutorial to reproduce the issue.

  1. Create a dashboard with Subcategory.
  2. Insert a search box selector for Subcategory.
  3. Run the dashboard in Express mode.
  4. Minimize the browser window so that the bottom reaches about an inch below the top of the search box selector.
  5. Type in "a" in the search. Notice that when the results show up, it covers over the text input area so the user cannot see what is being typed.

CAUSE:

This is a known limitation of Strategy Web 9.3.1 Express mode. The results of the Search Box selector are required to display inside the browser window thus it displays upward. An enhancement request has been logged to address this display problem.

ACTION:

Contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on this issue.

WORKAROUND:

  • Enlarge the window size of the browser so that there is room below for the search results to display.
  • Position the search box selector high enough on the document so that there is room below for the search results to display.
