This KB addresses an error seen when connecting to Salesforce in MicroStrategy 9.x on Red Hat Linux.

SYMPTOM:
When attempting to connect to Salesforce using the 32-bit Strategy ODBC driver for Salesforce in Strategy 9.x the following error may occur:

2013-08-09 15:41:08.067-05:00 Failed to connect to data source. Error message: Connect failed.
Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLDriverConnect. Specified driver could not be loaded

Additionally, if running trace on the connection process, the following error is received when mapping libjvm.so to memory:

-1 EACCESS (Permission denied)

Using the DataDirect test tool 'ivtestlib' against the specified driver file will result in the error below:

Load of ./install/lib32/MYsfrcXX.so failed: /home/mstr/MicroStrategy/install/_jvm32/jre1.6.0_25/lib/i386/server/libjvm.so: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied

CAUSE:
One possible cause of this is that SELinux is enabled and set to enforce. To confirm this, the following command can be run:

/usr/sbin/getenforce

This will return the current status(Permissive, Enforcing, or Disabled).

ACTION:
Switch SELinux to Permissive or Disabled.
