An error message appears when configuring MicroStrategy Intelligence Server Universal edition running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x to access a metadata hosted by an Oracle 11g R2 instance with the Oracle Advanced Security option enabled

SYMPTOM:
The following error message appears when configuring Strategy Intelligence Server Universal edition 9.3.1 running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.x to access a metadata hosted by an Oracle 11g R2 instance with the Oracle Advanced Security option enabled:

Failed to create connection to the database: Connect failed. Login failed.
Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLDriverConnect. 
[28000:1017: on SQLHANDLE][Strategy][ODBC Wire Protocol 
driver][Oracle]ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied

CAUSE:
This is a known issue when using the Strategy ODBC Driver for Oracle Wire Protocol 7.10.00.30 with the Oracle Advanced Security option enabled. 
ACTION:
This has been addressed in Strategy 9.4.1 HF 1 and above. Upgrade to take advantage of the fix  
NOTE:
For further information about the Oracle Advanced Security option and an issue related to it, refer to the Strategy technical note:

  • KB44397: "Connection Dead. This may have occurred because the server requires Oracle Advanced Security" Oracle error received when connecting to an Oracle 11g R2 instance after enabling the Oracle Advanced Security in MicroStrategy 9.3.1 running on Red Hat 6.x
