The following knowledge base article discusses a known issue which may prevent the Intelligence Server from starting automatically when registered as a service on SuSe. A workaround is provided.

SYMPTOM:
The Intelligence Server does not start automatically on SUSE Linux after a machine reboot, even though the Intelligence Server is registered as a service in Strategy 9.x.

CAUSE:
This is known issue in Strategy 9.x.

ACTION:
Contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on this issue.

WORKAROUND:
As a workaround, the following snippet can be added to Intelligence Server start up script in the /etc/ini.d folder. Ensure that the line is spacing the same as shown below as the script is sensitive to whitespaces:

### BEGIN INIT INFO
# Provides: mstrsvr
# Required-Start: $network $portman $nfs $nfsboot $sshd
# Default-Start: 3 5
# Default-Stop: 0 1 2 4 6
# Description: Strategy Intelligence Server
# Short-Description: IServer
### END INIT INFO

This information can be added between the copyright information and the "begin MSTR variables" section as shown below:

After doing so, users can run the insserv -v/etc/init.id/<name of startup script> command. Users should see the output including the creation of the links into the rc3.d and rc5.d folders. This will ensure that the Intelligence Server service is started in run level 3 and run level 5. Users can now run the chkconfig utility to confirm that run level 3 and 5 are on for the Intelligence Server process. To do so run the following command:

chkconfig --list

This should display the run levels 3 and 5 as "on" for the Intelligence Server process as shown below:

<mstr-intelligence-server-startup-script> 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:off 5:on 6:off
