KB44587: What are the best practices for Images in the Navigation Bar for iPhone or iPad in MicroStrategy Mobile 9.4.x and 10.x

Community Admin

• Strategy

This tech note article describes the iOS established guidelines for the definition of images used in MicroStrategy Mobile navigation bars.

SYMPTOM
Strategy Web 9.3.1 introduced the new Navigation Bar to allow easy navigation between specific documents.
Note: For more information on this feature, refer to tech note KB44588: New feature in MicroStrategy Mobile 9.3.1: Navigation Bar for iPhone and iPad.
The formatting of the Navigation Bar is bounded by iOS standards for Icons for Navigation Bars, Toolbars, and Tab Bars and suggests the following best practices that apply to all Strategy Mobile versions:

  • Use pure white with the appropriate alpha transparency: A transparent background is recommended.
  • Do not use a drop shadow.
  • Use anti-aliasing.
  • Bevels should be 90°. That is, the bevel should look like a light source is positioned at the top of the image.
  • Images should be 30x30 pixels for standard resolution or 60x60 for high resolution.
  • Reference images using an HTTP path so that the images are accessible to the developers of the navigation bar and to the mobile clients running the document.  If this is not possible the image should be accessible to the Strategy Web Server when designing the document and to the Strategy Mobile Server when running the document.

To enable high resolution for images used in the navigation bar append the following as the suffix of the image name.

@2x

For example:

icon@2x.png

The following file is an example of an image sized at 30x30 pixels:

Notice that this image will show as follows in the Navigation Bar in Strategy Mobile 9.4.x:
