The IBM InfoSphere BigInsights ODBC driver provides an ODBC API interface to connect to the IBM InfoSphere BigInsights server.

The IBM InfoSphere BigInsights ODBC driver provides an ODBC API interface to connect to the IBM InfoSphere BigInsights server.

The 32-bit windows odbc driver is available in the biginsights_odbc.zip file. The user has to extract biginsights_odbc.zip file to get ‘win32’ folder which contains driver files.

The driver directory structure

  • The following four directories and two .vbs files exist under ‘win32’ folder.
    •  bin – dll’s referred by applications
    •  lib - runtime library file
    • include – header files to be used to compile client applications
    • cfg – configuration file (odbc.ini)
    • sql_reg_drivermgr.vbs – script to register driver
    • sql_dsn.vbs – script to add DSN

Configuration of IBM InfoSphere BigInsights ODBC driver

After extracting the driver files, go to the ‘cfg’ folder where odbc.ini initialization file is located. The odbc.ini file is used to configure the odbc driver.

The user can edit the odbc.ini file with appropriate DSN section.

odbc.ini file example
Sql

DATABASE=databasename
HOST=hostip
PORT=port
UID=user
PWD=password Framed=0

The above odbc.ini configuration is required to connect to the server.

Client application run time configuration:
Set the ‘LIB’ environment variable to additionally include the IBM InfoSphere BigInsights ODBC library path.
set LIB=<odbc/driver/lib/path>

The below steps has to be done to configure the driver

  1. Execute sql_reg_drivermgr.vbs to register Big SQL odbc driver.
    Ex: C:\bigsqlodbc\win32> sql_reg_drivermgr.vbs
  2. Execute sql_dsn.vbs to add the dsn_name (same as odbc.ini file) sql_dsn.vbs
    Ex: C:\bigsqlodbc\win32> sql_dsn.vbs mydsn

The DSN now should be shown in the windows ODBC Data Source Administrator. *Not additional details are display but only the DSN name.
