KB44691: "logger.properties : Access denied (java.io.FilePermission logger.properties read)" error message seen in logs when attempting to deploy MicroStrategy Web Universal 9.x on WebSphere Application Server

This knowledge base article describes an error observed with Java 2 security enabled on WebSphere.

DESCRIPTION

When starting IBM WebSphere Application Server after deploying Strategy Web Universal 9.x the following error messages can be observed in WebSphere specific SystemOut logs.

Sample Code/Error
logger.properties : Access denied (java.io.FilePermission logger.properties read)
com.Strategy.utils.FileFinder in {file:/wascfg61/profiles/appServer/installedApps/DefaultNode/Strategy_war.ear/Strategy.war/WEB-INF/lib/WebUtils.jar}

This issue might affect one deployment but not another. Reviewing Linux file permissions within the Strategy Web deployment folder does not solve the issue and the file logger.properties exists in the file system.

CAUSE

One possible cause is that a WebSphere security setting called "Java 2 security" prevents access to certain files.

ACTION

Make sure to disable Java 2 security in the IBM WebSphere configuration. Refer to IBM documentation for further information.
