KB44700: "Execute Query failed. Query time-out." error message appears in the DSSErrors.log when attempting to write Intelligence Server statistics to the statistics database in MicroStrategy 9.x and 10.x

"Execute Query failed. Query time-out." error message appears in the DSSErrors.log when attempting to write Intelligence Server statistics to the statistics database in MicroStrategy 9.x and 10.x

SYMPTOM:
Some Intelligence Server statistics do not get written to the statistics database and the following error is seen in the DSSErrors.log:

Database Classes][Error] Execute Query failed. Query time-out.

Error type: Odbc error. Odbc operation attempted: SQLExecDirect. [HYT00:0: on SQLHANDLE] [Strategy][ODBC SQL Server Legacy Driver]Timeout expired

This timeout is seen more often when writing statistics to the IS_SESSION_STATS table.

CAUSE:
By default, there is a 10 second timeout setting for writing statistics into statistics tables. When this timeout is hit, the execution will fail and the error will be written to the DSSErrors.log

ACTION:
It is possible to increase the statistics timeout by using Command Manager. Run the following command:

ALTER STATISTICS SQLTIMEOUT <New Timeout value> IN PROJECT "Project Name";

For example, the command ALTER STATISTICS SQLTIMEOUT 60 IN PROJECT "Strategy Tutorial"; will increase the SQL timeout to 60 seconds for the Strategy Tutorial project. After running this command, users can make sure the setting has updated correctly by running the following command and checking the "SQL Timeout (Seconds)" setting:

LIST ALL PROPERTIES FOR STATISTICS IN "Project Name";
