"HTTP 400 Bad Request" error occurs when navigating or executing reports in MicroStrategy Web.

DESCRIPTION
Only some users are facing an issue when navigating and running reports in Strategy Web. The request returns a HTTP error message with status code 400 and description bad request as seen on the screenshot below:

This issue only affects certain users and can occurs on different machines on which the affected user logs in.

CAUSE
This HTTP error code can have various root causes. Capturing Fiddler traces is a recommended approach to reveal more information:

As seen on the screenshot, Fiddler provides additional detail to the error message when going to the "Raw" HTTP response. The error states:


400 - Bad Request: The size of the request headers is too long

Looking at the HTTP request header a Kerberos token is passed to the Web Server that has more than 14648 characters. This is not a Strategy issue but specific to Active Directory users. The token size for specific users depends on how many Active directory groups the user is member of. Further information for this specific issue can be obtained from the following Microsoft Article:

ACTION
As per the Microsoft article above, there are two options to solve this issue:
a) Remove membership of some groups or
b) Increase the MaxFieldLength and the MaxRequestBytes registry entries
