KB44752: The Canada map is not available within the Image Layout widget Shape File options in MicroStrategy Web

Community Admin

• Strategy

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Web 9.3.x-10.x,  the Canada map Shape File for the Image Layout widget cannot be selected because it doesn't appear in the drop down menu even when the map is provided out of the box, like shown below.

ACTION:
Follow the steps below to enable the Canada Maps:

  • Navigate to the directory \VisFramework\map for 9.3.x-9.5.x or \WEB-INF\xml\config for 10.x.
  • Open the file "ShapeFileMap.xml" with a text editing program.
  • Add the following line with the rest of the "ShapeFileMaps" tags:

    <ShapeFileMap shapeKey="CanadaMapCoords" shapeType="Polygon" role="State" name="States of Canada" shapeFile="VisFramework/map/CanadaMapCoords.html"/>

  • At this point the Image Layout will show in the dropdown, however the background image set by default is not included ("canada map.png"). If administrators want to enable this Image Layout without adding a background image, navigate to the "CanadaMapCoords.html" typically located in (for ASP environments):

    Web ASPx\VisFramework\map

  • Modify the SRC parameter in the IMG tag to be empty as shown below:

    <img src="" usemap="#myMap" width="619" height="600" border="0" />

  • Restart Strategy Web, clear the browser cache, and re-open the widget property panel. The option for Canada is available now, like shown below.

Note: For more information on this procedure refer to tech note KB44328.
