KB44817: "Error(s) occurred while loading report: %1" error message appears when filtering by a group in MicroStrategy Web 9.3.1

When a user executes a report in Web and creates a new Derived Element group on attribute elements, right mouse clicking the new Derived Element group and selecting 'Filter on Selections" causes "Error(s) occurred while loading report: %1" appears.

SUMMARY:
 
This issue has been classified as a defect by Strategy. The impact is limited to Strategy Web 9.3.1 product only with reports using Derived Elements groups.  A solution/code fix for this issue is not available in current releases but is being reviewed for a future Strategy release.
 
SYMPTOM: 
When a user executes a report in Web and creates a new Derived Element group on attribute elements. After right mouse clicking the new Derived Element group, they select 'Filter on Selections". After doing so, they will see an error at the top of the screen.
 
 
 
 


Error in report results
User request is in Analytical engine. Error(s) occurred while loading report: %1.

 
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
 
User can reproduce this issue by following the below steps:
 
1) Create at report with a single attribute and metric
 
 
2) Right mouse click on the attribute element and select 'Create Group'.
 
 
3) After creating the group the users should see below.
 
 
4) Right mouse click on the new group and select 'Filter on Selection'.
 
5) Error will be seen at top of the screen near 'Report Filter'.

CAUSE:
This issue occurs if the reports contains a Derived Element group which is then used in the Report filter. This is a known issue classified as a defect with Strategy Web 9.3.1.
 
ACTION:
Strategy will continue to investigate and post updates as soon as they are available.
 
WORKAROUND:
Currently there is only one workaround. This is to edit the report and add the filter qualifications that are needed.
 
 
 
If the group has been already created, user can clear the derived elements by right clicking on the Attribute header and selecting 'Clear Derived Elements'.
 
 
This will allow the user to drill on single elements.
 
 
 
ADDITIONAL TROUBLESHOOTING:
If the above workaround does not work, please have the following ready for Technical Support:
 

  • Metadata backup of environment where issue exist.
  • Caches/Cubes collected for report to be able to run report for in-house testing. 

We will need these two items to be able to reproduce and diagnose the issue experienced.
