KB44883: Siteminder authentication for credentials pops up when running prompted reports or navigating around MicroStrategy Web 9.3.1 and above using Internet Explorer 9

• Strategy

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Web 9.3.1 and above using Trusted authentication, users get prompted for Siteminder credentials when running a prompted report or navigating through pages, when using Internet Explorer 9 even after they have already authenticated once.

CAUSE:
This issue can be caused when Siteminder is configured to block certain file extensions and directories that are used to run Strategy Web 9.3.1 and above, such as the ones listed in tech note KB43895: "Which file extensions must be allowed by IIS 7 for a fully functional environment in Strategy Web 9.3.x?".

To find which file extensions or folders are being blocked, a Fiddler trace can be performed.  Directions on how to install and use Fiddler can be found in tech note KB20064: "How to install and use Fiddler for Strategy Web troubleshooting".

ACTION:
Add the files, folders, or extensions being blocked to the Exceptions list in Siteminder.

WARNING:
The third-party product(s) discussed in this technical note is manufactured by vendors independent of Strategy. Strategy makes no warranty, express, implied or otherwise, regarding this product, including its performance or reliability.
