What is AWS?
Amazon Web Services (abbreviated AWS) is a collection of remote computing services (also called web services) that together make up a cloud computing platform, offered over the Internet by Amazon.com. More information about AWS can be found at http://aws.amazon.com/
Can AWS be used with the Strategy product suite? Is AWS certified for use with Strategy products?
Strategy offers support for AWS deployments of its software. Strategy's certification programs only certify pure operating systems for use with its software. Strategy performs backend product testing (i.e. Strategy Intelligence Server, Strategy Narrowcast Server, Strategy Web, etc.) only on pure (non-AWS) installations of certified operating systems.
Strategy Technical Support aids in the deployment of Strategy's platform with these components. If an issue occurs with Strategy software in a virtualized environment, the customer may log a case with Strategy Technical Support for their system. As with any third party software, Strategy requires that the customer properly configure the software before reporting the issue to Strategy. If the issue determined to be a Strategy issue, Strategy Technical Support will recommend appropriate action items. In the event that Strategy Technical Support determines that the problem is not caused by Strategy, then the customer will be asked to contact the appropriate vendor and log a support case with the vendor to resolve the issue. In instances where it is unclear if an issue is caused by Strategy, Strategy Technical Support may request customers to reproduce the problem outside the virtualization environment.
Customers who wish to proceed with using these applications should ensure that the application is deployed on a configuration that is listed as supported or certified in the "Certified and Supported Configurations" section of the applicable Strategy Product Readme and Release Notes. The customer must also use a version of the virtualization software supported by its vendor. For more information, see KB14943: MicroStrategy Support for Virtualization Software .
How does using AWS relate to my Strategy Licenses?
If Strategy software is used within an AWS environment, its usage is subjected to the same licensing terms as usage on actual physical machines.
It is important to note that for licensing purposes the Strategy software will only count the number of physical processors and check the clock-speed of the physical processors on the machine, in an AWS environment. Strategy software does not recognize sharing of processors or clock-speed across the different AWS environments that reside on the same physical machine.
Are there any known functional issues on using AWS?
At this time, Strategy is not aware of any non-functional behavior of Strategy software under AWS.
