KB45162: Quick Search tooltips for objects inside hidden folders omits the hidden folder in the object's folder path in MicroStrategy Web

Quick Search tooltips for objects inside hidden folders omits the hidden folder in the object's folder path in MicroStrategy Web.

SYMPTOM:

When using Quick Search, users can hover their mouse over the search results to reveal the object's location in the tooltip. Any object that resides within a hidden folder will display an incorrect path, where folder structure shown skips the hidden folder completely, giving the impression that the object is one folder up in Strategy Web 9.3.1.

Tooltip from Quick Search Results:

Actual location of the object:

Notice how the ellipsis indicates a hidden folder that is not present in the tooltip above.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  • From Strategy Desktop, create a folder within the "Shared Reports" folder.
  • Right-click this folder and select "Properties."
  • Enable the "Hidden" checkbox.
  • Create a report with the Year attribute.
  • Save this report as "Test" in the folder created in Step 1.
  • Login to Strategy Web.
  • Using the search bar, search for "Test," but do not press "Enter."
  • Instead, hover the cursor over the results returned to show the tooltip, like shown below.

  • Note: This path is omitting the hidden folder created in Step 1 and as a result is misleading. This structure indicates that the report "Test" is located within "Shared Reports."
  • Now, run the report.
  • Expand the path of the folder by selecting "Test" at the top of the browser to discover its location, like shown below.

  • Note: This path indicates that there is a hidden folder within "Shared Reports" that "Test" resides in.

CAUSE:

This is a known issue in Strategy Web 9.3.1.

ACTION:

Strategy will continue to investigate and post updates as soon as they are available
