KB45177: Edit Links on a metric in a Report Services Document executed in Flash mode will not pass the attribute elements associated with that row to the target document containing a hierarchy prompt in MicroStrategy Web

Community Admin

• Strategy

SYMPTOM:
Users may set Edit Links on a metric on a grid on a Report Services Document to execute a target document that contains a hierarchy prompt. However, users may observe that when the parent document is executed in Flash mode and the link is triggered by clicking on a metric value, the target document executes without the hierarchy prompt being answered.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Create a hierarchy prompt that lists all hierarchies.
  2. Add this to a report that has Distribution Center, Year, and Revenue.
  3. Save this report with nothing answered for the prompt.
  4. Create a document off this report called "Target", and set default execution mode to Flash.
  5. On the document, also add a textbox with the macro "{&Prompt1&}".
  6. Create another report with Distribution Center, Year, and Revenue.
  7. Set Edit Links on Revenue to point to Target, and set the prompt to "Answer using all valid units".
  8. Set default execution mode to Flash, save as Parent.
  9. Execute the parent, click on a Revenue > Hyperlink1, and observe that the target prompt is not answered.

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Web

ACTION:
Contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on this issue.

WORKAROUND:
Execute the parent document in Interactive or Express mode, or consider using different prompt objects, such as attribute element prompts, instead of the hierarchy prompt.
