Google Map visualization for newly created dashboard is not enabled by default for Visual Insight (Analysis) in MicroStrategy Analytics Enterprise Web 9.4.1. The VisualizationGallery.xml file needs to be modified in MicroStrategy Analytics Enterprise Web 9.4.1 according to the steps described in this Tech note. In an upgraded environment, the modification is only necessary for newly created Analysis. The existing Visual Insight (Analysis) will display Google Maps properly without the following changes.

In order for Google Maps visualizations for Visual Insight (Analysis) to display properly, the VisualizationGallery.xml file needs to be modified in Strategy Analytics Enterprise Web 9.4.1 according to the steps detailed below. In an upgraded environment, the modification is only necessary for newly created Analysis. The existing Visual Insight (Analysis) will display Google Maps properly without the following changes.

Steps to Add the Google Maps Visualizations for Visual Insight in Strategy Analytics Enterprise Web 9.4.1:

Note: Before adding the Google Map visualizations users need to make sure that Google Map connector is deployed. For steps on how to deploy the Google Connector please refer to KB36062 ( How to deploy and configure the Google Maps widget and which Google Map product to purchase in order for Google Map Widget to work properly in Flash View mode when using Strategy Web 9.X )

Step 1: Open VisualizationGallery.xml, located under /Web ASPx/swf/XML/visualizationGallery in your Strategy Web installation directory.

Step 2: Find the <VisualizationGroups> node, which contains child <VisualizationGroup> nodes. Each child node represents one entry in the list of visualizations displayed in the "Insert visualization" dialog box in a VI dashboard. The <VisualizationGroup> node with the id attribute set to "2" is for Maps.

<VisualizationGroups>
 <VisualizationGroup id="0" iconURL="../swf/images/visualizationGallery/visualizationGroups/grid.png" text="mstr.1186" tooltip="mstr.1198">
      <VisualizationTemplateId>0</VisualizationTemplateId>
    </VisualizationGroup>
    <VisualizationGroup id="1" iconURL="../swf/images/visualizationGallery/visualizationGroups/heatMap.png" text="mstr.1187" tooltip="mstr.1199">
      <VisualizationTemplateId>1</VisualizationTemplateId>
    </VisualizationGroup>
    <VisualizationGroup id="2" iconURL="../swf/images/visualizationGallery/visualizationGroups/googleMap.png" iconURLSecondary="../swf/images/visualizationGallery/visualizationGroups/imageLayout.png" text="mstr.1188" tooltip="mstr.1200" tooltipSecondary="mstr.1350">
          <VisualizationTemplateId>69</VisualizationTemplateId>
          <VisualizationTemplateId>59</VisualizationTemplateId>
</VisualizationGroup>

Note: The Maps <visualizationGroup> node contains child <VisualizationTemplateId> nodes. There are two child nodes for Map in this release, each of which corresponds to a visualization icon displayed in the visualization gallery.

Step 3: Add two new <VisualizationTemplateID> nodes, one for Google Maps ("id=2") and the other for Google Density Map ("id=60"). The corresponding <VisualizationTemplates> nodes already exist for these maps. The updated <VisualizationGroup> node for Maps will look as follows:

<VisualizationTemplateId>2</VisualizationTemplateId>
<VisualizationTemplateId>60</VisualizationTemplateId>
<VisualizationTemplateId>59</VisualizationTemplateId>
<VisualizationTemplateId>69</VisualizationTemplateId>

Step 4: Save the file, clear all browser cookies and restart Web Server as administrator.
