KB45381: "You do not have Monitor cluster Privilege that is required to perform this task" when updating schema via Command Manager in MicroStrategy 9.3.1, with a user who is able to update schema successfully through MicroStrategy Desktop 9.3.1.

SYMPTOM:

A Standard authentication user is able to update schema with no problems through Strategy Desktop 9.3.1, and this user has the privileges to use Command Manager.  However, when this user attemps to run a Command Manager script with the following syntax...

UPDATE SCHEMA FOR PROJECT "Strategy Tutorial";

...they receive the following error:

You do not have the Monitor Cluster Privilege that is required to perform this task.

If this privilege is granted to the user and the script is run again, they may get the following error:

You do not have the Load and Unload Project privilege that is required to perform this task.

CAUSE:

This is a known issue with Strategy Command Manager 9.3.1 in which additional privileges including the "Monitor Cluster" and "Load and Unload Project" privileges are required to update the schema via Command Manager.

ACTION:

Contact Strategy Technical Support for an update on this issue.

WORKAROUND:

There are two very viable workarounds to this issue, as outlined below:

1)  Grant the privileges directly to the user or group that the user is in.

2)  If it is not desired to grant these privileges, an encrypted Command Manager script can be created so that the UPDATE SCHEMA command can be run by a user with Administrative level privileges.  Please see tech note 34964 for more information on how to create an encrypted Command Manager script.
