KB45491: The symbols of Decimal and Grouping Digit defined on the operating system level are ignored when exporting a report to Text file in MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.x-10.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

In MicroStrategy Developer 9.4.x-10.x, when exporting to Text file a report containing a Metric with its values formatted to Fixed with 2 Decimal Places, the Decimal symbol defined as "."  and the Digit Grouping symbol as ",", the Decimal symbol is exported as "," and the Digit Grouping symbol as "."

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Developer 9.4.x-10.x, when exporting to Text file a report containing a Metric with its values formatted to Fixed with 2 Decimal Places, the Decimal symbol defined as "."  and the Digit Grouping symbol as ",", the Decimal symbol is exported as "," and the Digit Grouping symbol as ".":

This issue does not happen when exporting to other formats, i.e. Excel, as shown:

The same behavior is seen even after configuring the Decimal symbol as "."  and the Digit Grouping symbol as "," in Control Panel > Region & Language > Regional Settings > Additional settings:

ka02R000000kcOzQAI_0EM440000002CY6.jpeg

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Follow the steps below to reproduce this issue using the Strategy Tutorial project:
1 - Go to Control Panel > Region & Language > Format and set the language to any Spanish option
2 - Click on Additional Settings and set the Decimal symbol to "." and the Digit Grouping symbol to ","
3 - Create a new report by adding the Call Center attribute to rows, the Revenue metric to columns and a local report filter as Region = Central
4 - Format the metric values to Fixed with 2 Decimal places
5 - Run the newly created report and export to Text file to confirm the issue

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Developer 9.4.x-10.x.

ACTION:
Strategy will continue to investigate and post updates as soon as they are available.

WORKAROUND:
As workaround, set the Region & Language > Current Format parameter to  English (US) prior to exporting. In order to mitigate the efforts to apply this workaround, add English as an option in Region and Language > Keyboards and Languages > Keyboards and other input languages (click on keyboards...) > General, so use the Language Bar option to select English prior exporting.

NOTE:
For additional reference on a similar issue when exporting to Microsoft Access, refer to the Strategy technical note:

  • KB38613: Numeric separators are not displayed correctly when exporting to Microsoft Access from MicroStrategy Desktop 9.2.1.
