In Strategy 9.3.x and earlier, when a dataset has a derived element and the document grid has a metric view filter, the branch element is used for qualification. But, starting in Strategy Analytics Enterprise 9.4.x and 10.x, this behavior has changed, both leaf elements and branch elements are qualified in the metric view filter and the derived element will be re-populated in the document.
For example, create a report in Strategy Tutorial with Year and Cost. Three rows will be returned for 2004, 2005, and 2006. Then, create a derived element for Year, one being 2004 + 2005 and the other one is 2004-2005.

Then, create one document based on the report, and create a view filter >= 20000000. Make sure it is applied at the level of the report objects.

In 9.3.1, only two rows are returned since the view filter is qualified for the branch derived element. No derived element re-population happens.

In Strategy Analytics Enterprise 9.4.x, all three rows will be returned. This occurs because when qualifying the view filter, 04+05 and 2005 are selected. 2004 and 2005 are also selected since they are the leaf elements of 04+05. Then the derived element is re-populated in the document. Since 04-05 are based on 2004 and 2005 which are selected, it can be calculated again.

Consider another example. With the same dataset report, create the view filter as 'Cost' between 15000000 and 16000000.
In 9.3.1, no data will be returned since no derived branch elements are qualified.
In Strategy Analytics Enterprise 9.4.x, two rows are returned but the data is the same as 2004. This occurs because both leaf elements and branch elements are qualified, only 2004's data is within the given domain. When re-populating the derived element in the document, the data of 2005 is considered as 0 so the two rows for 04+05 and 04-05 are the same as the data for 2004.
