KB45568: Elements for a prompt answer list are populated based on only one Intelligent Cube in a prompted document with multiple cube reports as datasets in MicroStrategy 9.3.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

This technical note outlines a behavior observed where elements for a prompt answer list are populated based on only one Intelligent Cube in a prompted document with multiple cube reports as datasets in MicroStrategy 9.3.x

SYMPTOM:
A Strategy prompted document has two dataset reports that are each based on a different Intelligent Cube. Both the Intelligent Cubes have a common attribute between them and each of the cubes have their own filter on that attribute.  The prompt in the document is an attribute qualification prompt on the same attribute that is common to both Intelligent Cubes.  When the document is executed, the prompt's element answer list is only populated based on one of the Intelligent Cubes, bringing back a subset of the elements based on that cube's particular filter instead of bringing back the full list of elements from the warehouse.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Define an Intelligent Cube (IC1) with:
    1. Attributes: Year, Quarter, Call Center
    2. Metric: Cost
    3. Filter: Quarter=Q1 2009

  2. Define another Intelligent Cube (IC2) with:
    1. Attributes: Year, Quarter, Call Center
    2. Metric: Profit
    3. Filter: Quarter=Q2 2009

  3. Create a standalone attribute qualification prompt on the "Quarter" attribute.
  4. Create a subset report based on IC1.
  5. Create a subset report based on IC2.
  6. Insert the prompt created in step 3 to the view filter in IC1 and IC2.
  7. Create a document with both cube reports as the datasets.
  8. Execute the document, and the attribute prompt element list will be populated based only on one cube. (e.g., Q1 2009 or Q2 2009).

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy 9.3.x.

ACTION:
This issue has been fixed in Strategy 9.4.0 and newer versions.  Upgrade to 9.4.0 or newer version to take advantage of the fix.
