"Import Unsuccessful. MicroStrategy Web encountered an error. Details..." when using the MicroStrategy File Import in MicroStrategy Analytics Enterprise Web 9.4.1 HF1

SYMPTOM:
Strategy Web 9.4.1 HF1 users see the following error message when trying to do a Strategy (.mstr) file import as shown below:

ka04W000000ObNhQAK_0EM4400000026NO.png

" Import Unsuccessful. Strategy Web encountered an error. Details... "
You do not have %1 access to the %2 object '%3'.

CAUSE:
Strategy file import in Strategy Web 9.4.1 HF1 requires a metadata upgrade for the project where the functionality will be used. See KB45753: New Feature in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1 HF1: Importing dashboards packaged in MicroStrategy Files (.mstr) into MicroStrategy Web. for more information on the requirements. If users try to import Strategy files before the upgrade, several object definitions will become corrupted and will prevent users of using this functionality even if the upgrade is performed after the error is shown.

WORKAROUND:
If users already tried to import Strategy files before the administrator performed the upgrade, follow the steps below to delete the corrupted objects:

  • Perform the Metadata upgrade as explained in the article KB45753: New Feature in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1 HF1: Importing dashboards packaged in MicroStrategy Files (.mstr) into MicroStrategy Web.
  • Delete all the objects related to the Strategy file import performed before the upgrade e.g dashboards, cubes and documents. Note: Even if the import failed, a cube object will be created in the "My Reports" folder for the user that performed the import. Delete this object as well.
  • Launch Strategy Developer 9.4.1 HF1 and log into the project source as an administrator.
  • In the Strategy Developer toolbar select Administration>Projects> "Delete unused managed objects" as shown below:

  • The functionality should now work properly in Strategy Web 9.4.1 HF1.
