KB46019: Sharing a document URL using the "Share…" option and modifying the currentViewMedia parameter to force the execution mode to Express mode, results in a non-interactive document in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1.

SYMPTOM:
In order to share a document via a URL, a user can click on the 'Share…' button in the Home menu of the Document editor as shown below:

A user can also force the document to open in Express mode when using the URL by appending the following parameter to the end of the URL.

¤tViewMedia=1

However, doing so will make the document become non-interactive when opened from the URL.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
Follow these steps to reproduce this issue in a Strategy Tutorial Project:

  • Create a report with the Year attribute.
  • Create a document from that report.
  • Create a drop-down selector for Year.
  • Run the report in Interactive mode, not in 'Full Screen Mode'.
  • Go to Home > Share... > Show link as shown below.

  • Add the URL parameter to the end of the link as shown below:

    Sample Code/Error

    ¤tViewMedia=1

  • Copy the link and paste it to a new browser window.
  • Execute the link to see the document is now non-interactive.

CAUSE:
In order to use currentViewMedia=1 to make a document open in Express mode correctly, a matching value for the 'src' parameter must also be used in the URL obtained from the above steps. Therefore, just adding the parameter but keeping the original value of the src parameter, shown below, will cause this issue.

The following is the default value of the src parameter:

&src=Main.aspx.2048026

ACTION:
Change the value for the 'src' parameter in the share URL to the following as shown below.

&src=Main.aspx.oivm.rwb.2048026

Afterward, the document opened from the URL will be in Express mode and will have interactivity.
