KB46059: Date prompts returned incorrect results when changing the "Region Format" of the iOS device to a region with a different date format than the English (US) in MicroStrategy Mobile 9.4.x and 9.5.1

Date prompts returned incorrect results when changing the "Region Format" of the iOS device to a region with a different date format than the English (US) in MicroStrategy Mobile 9.4.x and 9.5.1

SYMPTOM:
Users located in different parts of the world might specify different "Region Formats" in their device profiles on their iOS device. Doing so may cause a conflict with the data coming from the data warehouse in Strategy Mobile 9.4.0.

For example, a user with a Region Format that uses dates as:
Sample Code/Error
dd/mm/yyyy

Instead of:
Sample Code/Error
mm/dd/yyyy

May answer a date prompt with Mar 1st, 2012 and retrieve results for Jan 3rd, 2012, like shown below.

After retrieving the results:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
In Strategy Tutorial:

  • Create a value prompt on Date and name it "Start".
  • Create another value prompt on Date and name it "End".
  • Create a filter that "qualifies" on "ID" with the "operator" set to "between".
  • Configure both dropdowns to be "Simple Prompt".
  • Add the "Start" prompt to the first field and the "End" prompt to the second field.

  • Note: The filter editor should look like the above.
  • Create a report with the Day attribute and Profit metric, as well as the filter that qualifies on the "Start" and "End" prompts.
  • In the iPad, navigate to the "Region Format" in "Settings". Select the "United States", like shown below.

  • Execute the report and select "Mar 1, 2012" for the "Start" and "Mar 7, 2012" for the "End".

  •
Note: A grid with the dates from March 1st, 2012 to March 7th, 2012 will be returned, as shown below.

  • Note: These are the expected results.
  • In the iPad, navigate to the "Region Format" in "Settings". Select "Belgium" from the dropdown, like shown below.

  • Clear the iPad caches and execute the report again.
  • With the Belgian user, answer the prompt with the same dates as before: March 1st, 2012 to March 7th, 2012.
  • Notice the results are incorrect now, returning the results from: Jan 3rd, 2012 to July 3rd, 2012.

  • Click the "Filter" button.

  • Note: The selected dates have now changed to reflect "03 Jan 2012" and "03 July 2012".

CAUSE:
This is a known issue with Strategy Mobile 9.4.0. Different regions format dates differently. For example, March 1st, 2012 is 03/01/2012 in the United States, but 03/01/2012 corresponds to January 3rd, 2012 in Belgium. When the Region Format is set to Belgium, the iOS client tries to send the prompt answer in the format of the client, but the Strategy Mobile server still reads it in the wrong format, thus send the wrong request in the XML to the Strategy IServer. The Strategy IServer then returns back English formatted dates, instead of the desired dates.

ACTION:
This issue has been fixed in Strategy 9.5.2. Please upgrade your product in order to take advantage of the fix.

WORKAROUND:
Only use "Region Formats" that are of the same data type as the data warehouse that will be queried.
