KB46129: Thresholds are not shown in a MicroCharts Widget for the results of the Aggregation Function (Tree Display) in MicroStrategy Web Universal 9.3.1 and up

Community Admin

• Strategy

This technical note describes how thresholds for a metric only apply at the lowest level and do not apply at parent levels for a MicroChart widget in Tree Display mode. This functionality was never implemented in MicroStrategy. Contact MicroStrategy tecnical support for an update on this issue.

SYMPTOM:
In Strategy Web Universal 9.3.1 and up, a MicroCharts widget is inserted in a dashboard. One of the metrics used for the widget (Revenue in this example) is configured to show thresholds based on the metric value. The widget is configured in Tree Display mode and using an Aggregation Function (it could be any of the Aggregation functions). When the dashboard is executed, the threshold is applied to the metric values related to the lower level but not to the upper level as showed in the following screenshot:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Go to Strategy Web, and then to Tutorial Project
  2. Create a new document using 01 Blank Dashboard template.
  3. Use the report Category Sales Report (located in Shared Reports>Subject Areas > Sales and Profitability Analysis) as dataset for the document
  4. Insert a Strategy Widget in the main panel (Go to Insert -> Widgets -> Flash -> MicroCharts)
  5. Add the attributes Category, Subcategory and Month in the Rows section of the grid
  6. Add the metrics Revenue, Revenue Forecast, Profit Forecast and Profit to the Columns section of the grid.
  7. Click on the Revenue in the grid and then go to the menu Data -> Thresholds -> Visual… and make the following configuration:

  1. If everything is configured like in the image above, execute the dashboard in Flash View Mode and then Right-Click in the MicroCharts widget and go to Properties…. Configure the widget following the images below:

  1. Finally click in “OK” and the MicroChart widget will display the attributes in Hierarchy mode without applying the threshold of the Revenue metric at Category level.

CAUSE:
Currently this feature is not implemented in Strategy.
