This KB article explains how to log all communications at the WebAPI layer for troubleshooting purposes

For troubleshooting purposes, it is possible to track and log all communications at the WebAPI layer between the Strategy Analytics Desktop Web Server and the Strategy Analytics Desktop Intelligence Server.
Administrators have to add 2 registry keys as explained below:

  • Open the registry editor in the machine where Strategy Analytics Desktop is installed. This can be accomplished by typing "regedit" in the search menu for Windows.
  • Navigate to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\MicroStrategy\Diagnostics\Log2\Kernel XML API\Trace

  • In the Trace registry key add two registry entries of type "String" with the following names:
    1. DebugOutput
    2. DSSErrors
  • The registry key will look as follows:
ka04W000000OancQAC_0EM440000002VgU.png
  • Exit MAD completely by right clicking the task bar icon and selecting "Quit"
ka04W000000OancQAC_0EM440000002VgQ.png
  • Reopen MAD.
  • The Kernel XML API entries will be logged in the standard DSSErrors logs located by default in:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\MicroStrategy\Log
