KB46297: How to use the &reportName parameter in URL API to execute different reports depending on selector values in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1-10.x

Community Admin

• Strategy

In MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1-10.x, a user can construct a link via URL API which allows the user to call different reports depending on the values of selectors in the parent document. This is useful when the user wants to have a single link that allows them to call different reports based on selector values without having prompts in the target reports

SYMPTOM
In Strategy Web 9.4.1-10.x, a user can construct a link via URL API which allows the user to call different reports depending on the values of selectors in the parent document. This is useful when the user wants to have a single link that allows them to call different reports based on selector values without having prompts in the target reports. The following procedure describes how to set up an example of this scenario in Strategy Tutorial.
ACTION
This example assumes the use of three selectors: "Country", "Category" and "Year".

  • Rename, the reports and documents that will be called based on selector values using he following format:
    Where , , and so on, are the names of selector attribute elements in the parent document. In our example, the documents or reports are named as follows:

    USABooks2011
    CanadaElectronics2010

  • Construct the URL API using the parameter "&reportName" instead of the usual "&reportID".
    The reportName parameter needs to be answered with the dynamic names of each of the attributes in the selectors. Here is the URL API for this example:

    Sample Code/Error

    (.NET Version) http:///MicroStrategy/asp/Main.aspx?
    (JSP Version) http://:port/MicroStrategy/servlet/mstrWeb?
    evt=4001
    &src=Main.aspx.4001
    &reportName={Country}{Category}{Year}
    &visMode=0
    &reportViewMode=1
    &server={&SERVERNAME}
    &Project={&PROJECT}
    &port=0

  • Place the link containing the URL API in a panel stack targeted by all of the selectors. Each of the selectors must be slice selectors. The dashboard for this example looks like this:

  • Now, after making selections for each selector, the user can click the link to go to a report specific to that combination of selector values.
