How to fix a Database error that occurs when trying to import data from Oracle, in MicroStrategy Web 9.3.x -10.x, on Linux

SYMPTOM:
When importing data using Data Import feature from an Oracle database in Strategy Web 9.3.x - 10.x,  Linux, the following error appears when trying to get the tables list:

ka04W000000OdiLQAS_0EM440000002CQx.png

Database error <1>: Unknown failed. Unable to connect. Error type: System call error. Error communicating with connection process. Find target process dead while waiting for reply.

CAUSE:
The IANAAppCodePage configured for the DSN that connects to the Oracle instance doesn’t match with the code page used by the Oracle instance. By default on an Linux machine, the IANAAppCodePage value is set to 111 when a DSN for Oracle database is created.

ACTION:
a) To solve this problem, the first step is to get the code page configured in the Oracle instance by executing the following SQL sentence:
SQL> select value from nls_database_parameters where parameter = 'NLS_CHARACTERSET'; VALUE ---------------------------------------- WE8ISO8859P1
The Oracle character set in the example above is WE8ISO8859P1. It corresponds to the IANA Character Set Name ISO-8859-1 with IANAAppCodePage value 4. For additional information, consult  the Datadirect on-line documentation available at:
http://media.datadirect.com/download/docs/slnk/admin/appcodepage.html#wp536791.
b) Once the IANAAppCodePage value is identified in the Oracle instance, it has to be applied in the affected DSN configuration. To do this, follow the steps below:
     1. Make a backup of the odbc.ini file.
     2. Edit the odbc.ini file. For further information on how to modify this file, refer to the Strategy technical note: KB34312: How to add, remove, rename, and modify a DSN without a GUI in MicroStrategy Universal 8.x - 9.0.x on UNIX/Linux.
     3. Update the IANAAppCodePage value for the affected DSN. If there is no entry for IANAAppCodePage value, so add an entry to the text file for the desired DSN, for example:

          IpAddress=x.x.x.x
          Database=xxx
          TcpPort=xxx
          Driver=<MSTR HOME>/install/lib32/MYoraXX.so
          Description=Strategy ODBC Driver for Oracle Wire Protocol
          .
          .

          IANAAppCodePage=4

     4. Save the odbc.ini file, exit the text editor and restart the Strategy Intelligence Server service.
