KB46487: Drill maps that are defined when previously running a report are incorrectly applied to new attributes placed on the report with an object prompt in MicroStrategy 9.4.x-10.x

Stefan Zepeda

Salesforce Solutions Architect • Strategy

Users can define a drill map at the report level for each attribute on the report.  For reports that contain object prompts to select attributes, drill maps will be implemented based on the last time the report was saved.  The drill map for all attributes will be set to the drill map specified for the first attribute the last time the report was saved

SYMPTOM:
Users can define a drill map at the report level for each attribute on the report.  For reports that contain object prompts to select attributes, drill maps will be implemented based on the last time the report was saved.  The drill map for all attributes will be set to the drill map specified for the first attribute the last time the report was saved.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
To reproduce the issue in the Strategy Tutorial project:

  • Create an object prompt with 6 attributes.
  • Create a new report with the object prompt and 1 metric.
  • Run the report and select the first three attributes with the object prompt.
  • In grid mode, go to Data->Edit drill map and define separate attributes for the first two attributes on the report to drill down to.  Make sure they are different and click OK.

  • Right click each attribute and look at the drill map, the first two should be set as defined in step 4, the third attribute will still have the default drill map.
  • Save and close as prompted
  • Execute the report again and select the other three attributes in the object prompt (This will work no matter which attributes are chosen).
  • Right click each attribute and look at the drill map.  They will all be defined as the first attribute was defined the first time the report was run.

  • Go to Edit drill map, and each attributes drill map will be defined with the title of the first attribute from the first time the report was run.

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy 9.4.x-10.x.

ACTION:
Strategy will continue to investigate and post updates as soon as they are available.
If the report is saved, the drill maps can be removed by selecting the "Remove Association" button in the Drill map editor.
