The following error is encountered when trying to connect to the CDH cluster using the MicroStrategy DB query tool or the command line ODBC Test Tool (mstrtodbcx) in MicroStrategy 9.x.  Error from Hive: SASL(-4): no mechanism available: No worthy mechs found

SYMPTOM
After configuring the 32-bit Cloudera ODBC Driver for Apache Hive, Version 2.0 on the Intelligence Server machine running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux to connect to a CDH cluster, the following error is encountered when trying to connect to the CDH cluster using the Strategy DB query tool or the command line ODBC Test Tool (mstrtodbcx) in Strategy 9.x:

Error from Hive: SASL(-4): no mechanism available: No worthy mechs found

CAUSE
One possible cause of this case is that the package "cyrus-sasl-gssapi" or an other required package is not installed on the Intelligence Server machine.

ACTION
Install the missing sasl package on the Intelligence Server machine. The following packages are needed for the 32-bit Cloudera ODBC driver to get loaded.

[root@rhel6u2]# rpm -qa | grep cyrus
cyrus-sasl-lib-2.1.23-13.el6_3.1.i686
cyrus-sasl-plain-2.1.23-13.el6_3.1.i686
cyrus-sasl-gssapi-2.1.23-13.el6_3.1.i686

To install the missing file, users can run a command similar to the following(replace the package name based on the missing library):

 yum install cyrus-sasl-plain.i686
