KB46582: "The connection timed out" error is displayed when running a subscription from a mobile device, in MicroStrategy Mobile 9.x.

"The connection timed out" error is displayed when running a subscription from a mobile device, in MicroStrategy Mobile 9.x. This error appears because the number assigned to the "Maximum number of messages per user" setting has been reached. This parameter, that can be found under Project Configuration > General > History List, determines the amount of messages that can be stored in the history list. Once that value is reached we will not be able to add new reports or documents to the history list. In order to be able to run the Mobile Subscription, the History List can be cleared. The long-term solution would be to increase the value for  "Maximum number of messages per user".

SYMPTOM:
When running a Mobile subscription, the following error appears in Strategy Mobile 9.x and 10.x:

Error:

The connection timed out

If the same user runs the document from the Reports folder, it executes successfully.
Furthermore, the following errors are logged in the DSSErrors.log:

MsiUserInBox::AddMsg(): failed to add msg XYZ because of inbox limit 2 reached
MsiWorkingSet::AddNewMsg(jobId = 311): failed to save the new message into user inbox, return error 0x8004393B
FAILED SUBSCRIPTION 'Subscription Name': Error Msg: Error in CreateCommandForExecution() Error Code 0x40003E95. Instance ID = XYZ, Contact (Administrator, 54F3D26011D2896560009A8E67019608). Stop in 'NCSRequest::Execute, DSRequest Component of Distribution Service'

CAUSE:
This error appears because the number assigned to the "Maximum number of messages per user" setting has been reached. This parameter, that can be found under Project Configuration > General > History List, determines the amount of messages that can be stored in the history list. Once that value is reached we will not be able to add new reports or documents to the history list.
ACTION:
In order to be able to run the Mobile Subscription, the History List can be cleared. The long-term solution would be to increase the value for  "Maximum number of messages per user".
