KB46728: When Applying a Custom Footer to the Default Page Using the MicroStrategy SDK 9.4.1, the Custom Footer Will Not Appear on All Pages in MicroStrategy Web

Community Admin

• Strategy

When applying a custom footer on the Default Page via the Web Customization Editor 9.4.1, the custom footer will not be applied to all pages such as the Shared Reports page and the My Reports page.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

  • Using the Web Customization Editor, on the Application Settings tab, navigate to Strategy Web Configuration > Pages
  • Double click on the -1(Default Page), the editor will open.
  • Click on the Template Properties tab, and for the default template, right click on the footer - adding the footer using a pre created file or modifying the existing footer through Eclipse will have similar outcomes:

  • Save changes, restart the Strategy Web Server.  Users will notice that the footer will not appear across all pages (such as the Shared Reports page and the My Reports page).

CAUSE
This is a known issue with Strategy SDK 9.4.1.

ACTION
Please contact Strategy Technical Support for the latest status on this issue.

WORKAROUND
To workaround this issue, developers will need to remove the footer customization from the default page, then add the footer to each page that the footer should be applied to.  Follow these steps to set the footer on the Shared Reports page and the My Reports page.  If the footer needs to be applied to other pages, then the footer will need to be added to those pages as well.

  1. Set the plugin in the Web Customization Editor to the custom footer plugin
  2. Navigate to Strategy Web Configuration > Pages
  3. Double click on -1(Default Page) to open the editor
  4. Click on the Template Properties tab
  5. Right click on footer and select Make section empty
  6. Save the changes
  7. Navigate to Strategy Web Configuration > Pages
  8. Double click on shared(Shared Reports) to open the editor
  9. Click on the Template Properties tab
  10. Right click on footer and add custom footer
  11. Save the changes
  12. Navigate to Strategy Web Configuration > Pages
  13. Double click on my(My Reports) to open the editor
  14. Click on the Template Properties tab
  15. Right click on footer and add custom footer
  16. Save the changes
  17. Restart the Strategy Web Server

The example provided in this document is provided “as-is” to the user and assumes that the user:

  • Can program, compile (e.g. javac, jikes, etc.), and execute Java programs
  • Can configure environment variables (e.g. JAR files, property files, etc.)
  • Have all the necessary tools to create Java applications (JDK, IDE, etc.)
  • Has access to the Strategy SDK documentation.
  • Has read the customization warning at the bottom of this document

PREREQUISITES:

For the sample to work, the Strategy Web JAR files must be accessible by the Java Runtime
Environment. The Strategy Web JAR files can be found under:

  • Strategy Web Universal (JSP): {web_root}/WEB-INF/lib directory.
  • Strategy Web (.NET): Program Files\Common Files\Strategy directory.

Note:

More elaborate programs will require additional library files and are out of the scope of this document.
