KB46739: How to Bypass Clustering when Deleting Caches using the MicroStrategy Web SDK 9.4.1

Community Admin

• Strategy

The intelligence server will automatically delegate session creation to the next appropriate node in a cluster, if there is a cluster in place. When creating a session using the Web SDK, this behaviour can be programmatically bypassed.

SYMPTOM
Developers may notice that when deleting caches from an Intelligence Server cluster, the node in which the caches are deleted are not tied to the Intelligence Server specified to the session created using the Web SDK.

CAUSE
When specifying the Intelligence Server from an Intelligence Server cluster when creating a session using the Web SDK 9.4.1, the Intelligence Server will load balance regardless of what is set implicitly.  This is why, when deleting caches, developers will notice that the caches are deleted from a single node.

ACTION
To bypass the load balancing, the following flag needs to be set on the WebIServerSession using the setSessionFlags - EnumDSSXMLSessionFlags.DssXmlSessionBypassClustering.  When this flag is set, it will direct the API to ignore load balancing when creating the session.  The caveat is that this flag may cause performance implications as noted in the MSDZ Reference
API: https://www2.microstrategy.com/producthelp/Current/WebAPIReference/com/microstrategy/webapi/EnumDSSXMLSessionFlags.html#DssXmlSessionBypassClustering

Sample to delete caches in MSDZ:  Home > Web SDK > Customizing Strategy Web > Part II: Advanced Customization Topics > Using the Web Objects API > Monitoring > Use Cases > Deleting the 3 Longest-Running Jobs

The example provided in this document is provided “as-is” and user has read the following customization warning:
