KB46845: How to create an address for a file subscription to write to a UNIX/Linux machine

• Strategy

The following knowledge base article describes how to create an address for use with file subscriptions.

For Strategy Intelligence Server installations on UNIX/Linux operating systems, it is possible for users to create file delivery subscriptions to locations on the UNIX/Linux machines. One of the methods provided below can be used to create the file delivery address.

Method A

  1. Login to Strategy Web and go to 'Preferences'. Under 'User Preferences', go to 'File Locations' and choose to add a new address.
  2. Provide an address name and the actual physical address and choose the device 'User selected location' and save the address. The physical address should be a valid UNIX folder location such as in the example shown below.

Method B

  • In Strategy Developer, go to Administration > Delivery Managers > Devices.
  • Choose to create a new device and select 'File' as the device type as shown below.

  • In the Device Editor, choose a "File Location".  The file location should correspond to the exact path on the UNIX/Linux machine on which the Intelligence Server is installed. The user does not need to enter a domain name in front of the file path. For example, the following image shows a "File Location" value of "/app/mstr/IntelligenceServer/Caches/rds" on the corresponding UNIX/Linux machine.

Users should check the box 'Allow and append user entered path' if they want end users to be able to provide a different address than what is defined on the device. In such cases, the physical address specified on the address will overwrite the address specified on the device and the address on the device will only be used as a backup location.

  •
Note: A Strategy Universal Intelligence Server installed on UNIX/Linux-based operating systems will have the browse button ('...') greyed out/disabled. It is necessary to manually enter the full path of the file location and the location must be accessible to the Intelligence Server.

  •  To create a new address using the new device, in Desktop/Developer, go to Administration > User Manager and edit a user.

  • In the User editor, expand Deliveries > Addresses.

  • Click "New" and change the "Delivery Type" to "File" and "Device" to the "Device" created in step 3 as illustrated below.

After creating a new address using Method A or Method B, login to Strategy Web, navigate to the desired report/document and create a file subscription.
