KB46847: "You do not have Read access to the DB Table object 'Physical Table for XXX'" error is returned when running a prompted freeform SQL report after being saved to a different file location as a non-administrative user in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1.

This technical note describes a known defect in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1 that is addressed in MicroStrategy Web 9.4.1 Hotfix 4. Upgrade to take advantage of this fix.

SYMPTOM:
In this particular scenario, a non-administrative Strategy user may run a prompted freeform SQL report and save it to a different file location in their project. When that user runs the newly saved document and answers the prompts they are returned an error. This issue does not reproduce in Developer. A screenshot of a portion of the error is as follows:

Error in Report Results

(You do not have Read access to the DB Table object 'Physical Table for XXX'.Error(s) occurred while loading report: DSSSQLEngine: Schema loading error: There is error in report definition. The element shown in the following hierarchy has invalid definition or no longer exists: Report (XXX). -COM interface error..Error in Process method of Component: SQLEngineServer, Project XXX, Job 67, Error Code= -2147212797.)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE: 
Follow the steps to reproduce this issue in Strategy Tutorial 9.4.1:

  1. In Strategy Web, log in as a non-administrative user and navigate to the Shared Objects\Strategy Platform Capabilities\Extended Data Access\Freeform SQL folder and open the "Report: Average Call Time by Region - Prompted Call Center" report.
  2. Run the repot. Go to Home > 'Save As' and save the report to another folder such as My Reports. After saving, hit "Run newly saved report".
  3. After answering the prompts the error should return.

CAUSE:
This is a known issue in Strategy Web 9.4.1.
ACTION:
This issue has been addressed with Strategy 9.4.1 Hotfix 4. Upgrade to take advantage of the fix.
WORKAROUND:
To avoid this error follow one of the below workarounds:

  • Instead of going to "Home > Save As...", make a copy of the report object into the new location.
  • Save a copy of the report in Developer instead of Web.
